Almost a year ago I got some Pergo to replace my kitchen floor. My step-sister Angie found this for a great buy at Directbuy.com so I had her order it. It went to her house in Kalama Washington. On their way here for Christmas, they brought it to Idaho falls for me. My other floor was not bad but one spot by the back door had a leak. I had a rug there so you didn't see it. I though we had the leak fixed but you will see in later pictures that was not the case. Then stuff keep happening and I could not get the floor in. I got very sick, then went on vacation, then Michel got busy and could not do the floor. the a lightening strike. Michel suggested I should have a friend of his put in the floor. TJ from Discovery Construction came out and gave me a estimate on the floor. On the 12 of August I called and set up a time to have him put the floor in. I thought it would still be a while so I was surprised he could do it next week. So I called Greg to get the time off so I could be there when it was going on. I took Thursday and Friday. Here is how it went. The number of days are just worked on the kitchen, not from start to finish. So far we are at 12 days total but not all of them working on the floor.
Sorry the first couple photos were done with my iPod and I can't take very good pictures with it yet.
Day 1 and 2 (Saturday and Sunday)
I took all the trim off then floor and had Michel help me move the stovefridge and washer and dryer. The hard part of this was to get all the small nails out of the wall. What a pain in the butt. I cleaned all the floors and cupboards. And when that was all done, not like I had not worked my butt of for 2 days. I decided I didn't like this boarder that i had up above the cabinets by the sink. I remembered my Mother gave me some boarder with a apple theme and while a go so I took down the old border and put the new one up. (My kitchen is all done up in apples)
Day 3 Part 1 (well it should have been day 3) (Tuesday)
I went to a ball game with two friends of mine and missed TJ call. He left a message and said that it was going to take long on the remodel he was working on and would be sometime next week. No big deal, everything was done and ready for him. It was just a little weird having everything in the living room then the kitchen. I did have to go in and talk to Greg about changing days off. I hate to do that to him since I normally tell him a mouth in advance so to help him out and to make up for the fact that I was changing my mind all the time. I told him I would take only a half day on Monday and Tuesday. Really I didn't need to be home and Why waste the vacation time. (Megan this means I will spend some more time with you maybe in Nov so we can go to breaking dawn :) )
In between Day 3 part 1 and day 3 part 2 (Saturday)
I had to go to my Parents house and do laundry, while waiting for my laundry to be done my mother and I went to a concert that she got tickets for. It was okay. the guy was a jack of all trades and did a little of everything.
Day 3 Part 2 (Sunday)
TJ came over and took some measurements and we talked about a few things with the floor. not much happened this day. Gave him a key so he could keep my house locked when he was gone.
Day 4 (Monday)
I took part of the day off to see if he need anything and to see how the part by the back door was going to happen. He showed up around 9 am and we talked for a little while since he was unloading his equipment. He showed me a piece of the transition strip that he could find but it was not the right color and he didn't think I needed it, plus it was 60 dollars a piece and I would have needed two I decided I didn't need it. He started to work on the floor by the back door and when he got the first layer off he found in all wet. I went back there and he had me feel up underneath and i could tell how wet it was. He then told me that I would have to replace the back door the threshold and the wall underneath it. so I told him to go ahead and fix that. since if I didn't, then next time it gets wet then it would ruin the floor I just put down. I went to work early the planed to get out of his way while he made calls and to go to his next job since it didn't look like it was going to get done at all. He called to see how much everything would be and then get back to me. .
When I came home I got these pictures. In this one here you can see how wet the board is underneath, and how the door is sagging. No wonder I had a hard time with that door.
I didn't hear from him that night so I was not sure if he would show up tomorrow. So I went to work at my normal time.
Day 5 (Tuesday)
I went home for lunch because I forgot some things for work and I found TJ there. He was on his lunch break and so we talked about the floor. He had the dinning area done and everything up to the cabinet that hold the microwave. I was surprised since I didn't think he would do anything until we got the back door done. He said he would do most of the kitchen up until you get in the laundry room. and I could put the table fridge and stove back. Good thing I was getting tired of TV Dinners since all I have had to cook with is the microwave. I left him so he could get back to work so I grab my stuff and went back to work. I got home that night and found it done the way he said. He was going to put my stuff back but ran out of time. It so happened that Michel came over and I had him help me for a little while. So that is what I have done so far on my kitchen.
This pictures is from the stove looking towards the table.
This is from my bedroom looking into the kitchen. Don't mind the mess on the counters. or in the living room. (Look at that Great tv way in the back) SO loving that TV.
This is where the carpet went from the counter to my bedroom. I had him remove the carpet and just fill that in with the Pergo. I keep forgetting to vacuum there and that is where my garbage can sits so it only makes since to have Pergo there and not carpet.
This next one is from the sink looking at the china cabinet. Look how cool that looks. I am so loving it. I like of like the dark floor and lighter cabinets. I was a little worried about that but I think it looks cool.
So I have to wait for the back door to be built. Since it is not a standard size door I have to have it custom built. What a pain. That is one of the down sizes to buying a manufactured home. nothing fits since it is made smaller. So when that get done we will finish the laundry area and I should have pictures then.
